Celebrate Thanksgiving with the Right Altitude

After your plates have been eaten clean and the pumpkin pie is served, finish Thanksgiving off with a good old serving of adventure. From getting in your first run of the season or starting the day with a good old fashioned turkey trot, there are plenty of ways for Coloradans to show their gratitude for living in such a beautiful state!

Shred the Slopes

Looking to trade dry turkey for fresh powder? Well maybe powder can’t be promised but an early run on the mountain is the perfect way to show that you are thankful for life in the Rockies. Although not all the runs may be open, you can still expect less crowds and enough space to have a good day on the slopes. We recommend checking the open terrain to see where you will get the most out of your ski trip on turkey day!

Take a ‘Staycation

Don’t feel like cleaning up a messy kitchen? Take a staycation to a Coloradan destination instead! Book a trip to the iconic Stanley Hotel. Nestled in gorgeous Estes Park, this grand hotel makes for a luxurious retreat and offers a Thanksgiving day brunch served in the MacGregor Ballroom. Or head to Colorado Springs to stay at the historic Broadmoor. Book the Thanksgiving package which offers discounted tickets to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and other family activities. No matter the destination, taking a ‘staycation’ in Colorado makes for a great way to spend family time and explore another city!

Go for a Hike

Take a morning hike before heading back to cook up your delicious spread! For an easy family-friendly hike with gorgeous views, head for the Flatirons Vista Loop Trail near Boulder. Choose between a 1.9 mile loop or a 3.3 mile loop depending on how long you can wait to get back to stuffing and casseroles! Or for a bit more challenging hike that leads to gorgeous views, make the 2.7 mile hike there and back to Panorama Point. Make sure to check trail conditions and bring the necessary equipment – aka – traction devices if there is snow!

Run in a Turkey Trot

Okay, so this is a classic Thanksgiving staple. But doing a Turkey Trot at elevation adds to the experience. Take a trot through Washington Park with the Mile High United Way’s Turkey Trot Run in Denver. Run, trot, or walk through the course with family and friends while supporting a great cause in the Denver community. Plus, when you are done you can run right home to dig into a slice or two of pumpkin pie!

Get into the Holiday Spirit

After the Turkey day has come and passed, its *finally* time to start celebrating the Holiday season. There is no better way to do so than looking at the Mile High city’s light displays. Have a wild night strolling the Denver Zoo Lights with plenty of holiday cheer and animals to be found. Or stroll under the flora of the Denver Botanical Gardens during the annual Blossoms of Light display. Perfect for family fun or a romantic night out on the town, get into the Holiday spirit with these magical lights!
